Questions students ask

What is a good study plan for USMLE Step 1?

A good Step 1 plan is built backwards from your exam date: question blocks every day, Anki reviews for retention, one NBME every 7–14 days during dedicated study, and a taper in the final two weeks. Stepora builds exactly this plan from a few cards and adjusts it daily around your life.

How many hours should I study for USMLE Step 1?

It depends on your phase. In dedicated study, most passing students sustain 8–10 focused hours a day. Alongside classes or a job, 3–5 quality hours with daily questions beat long distracted days. Stepora sizes each day to the hours you actually have.

What is a good study schedule for Step 1 in 6 weeks?

Six weeks works if questions lead: roughly 80–120 questions a day with full review, a weekly NBME from week 1, weak subjects rotated in, and the last NBME at least a week before exam day. Stepora's plans follow this shape automatically and re-plan when life gets in the way.

Is 4 weeks enough to study for Step 1?

Only if your practice scores already say so. Four weeks can be enough for a focused dedicated block when recent NBMEs are near the safe range; starting from scratch, it is usually too short. Stepora shows your readiness honestly — NOT YET, CALCULATED RISK or GO — before you commit to a date.

What is the best way to study for the USMLE?

Questions first, reviewed properly. Treat every question block as the lesson: read the explanation, log why you missed, and let spaced repetition lock it in. Passive reading and video-only days are the most common reason scores stall.

What is the 7 year rule for USMLE?

The 7-year rule means all Step exams — Step 1, Step 2 CK and Step 3 — must be completed within 7 years of passing the first one for ECFMG certification, and some state boards set their own limits. Stepora plans all three Steps, so your timeline stays inside the window.
